Greece is a country significantly mountainous, having ranges and one of the greatest is Pindos. On the slopes of Kitiou Mountain, in an approximate altitude of 1200m, lies a town called Metsovo. Undoubtedly, lots of problems are evoked daily for the Municipality of Metsovo due to the mountainous area. Forest’s complexity of Metsovo’s Municipality demonstrates the characteristics presented in a typical mountainous region of our country. The reorganization of services in mountainous areas and the mobilization of local actors are commanding in order to improve the economy being more competitive. It is essential for Metsovo Municipality to be indicated as an important aspect that plays main role socially and economically to the events included in areas of Greece as well as in areas of Balkans.
Purpose of this study, is to assess the viability of the existing road network in the mountainous area of Metsovo, based on the technical, economic, ecological and social criteria. To conclude with the aim of this task, having long term results, a standardized evaluation system is produced especially for forest roads in diverse regions which provide the most suitable measures and actions to diminish the existing problems |
