Abstract:
The present master thesis consists of a site survey of the wetland at Alykes
Oropou and design proposal for an ecological park. The area of interest is one of the
most important remaining wetlands of Attica that hosts important bird species and
especially interesting groups of plant communities.
This project aims at the protection of the wetland, by way of an ecological park
that will combine recreation with environmental education, without disrupting this
sensitive ecosystem. On the contrary, it aims at its preservation and expansion.
Following review of the literature and current case studies and assessment of
the results of the site survey valuable conclusions were which show the need to
develop an ecological park and form the basis for the design at Alykes Oropou
